Telford Area Guide
Location
The town was founded in 1963 and named after engineer Thomas Telford, who managed many rail projects in Shropshire. New residents came from Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Dudley and Walsall in the 1960’s and 1970’s, to benefit from the era’s major housing and commercial developments. A highlight of modern-day is Telford Shopping Centre which has benefited hugely from a regeneration project adding new coffee shops, pubs and shops, a cinema and a bowling arcade.
As it is not too far from Birmingham (only around 45 minutes by train), Telford residents can easily go for a night out on Broad Street and get home safely and conveniently. Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton also within reach thanks to the three railway stations. There is also easy access by road, as Telford sits at the terminus of the M54 motorway. All this adds up to make Telford a great place to live.
