Telford Area Guide
The town was founded in 1963 and named after engineer Thomas Telford, who was in charge of many rail projects in Shropshire. New residents came from Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Dudley and Walsall in the 1960’s and 1970’s, being those decades when major housing and commercial development occurred. In the latest years the shopping centre has been regenerated by new coffee shops, pubs and shops, a cinema and a bowling arcade.
As it is not too far from Birmingham (only around 45 minutes by train), Telford makes it easy to go for a night out in the city. Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton also within reach thanks to the three railway stations. There is also easy access by road, as Telford is situated at the terminus of the M54 motorway. All this adds up to make Telford a great location to live.
