It may have been 15 years in the making but Birmingham Gateway and Grand Central can finally start to reap their rewards taking home four awards, including Project of the Year, at this year’s RICS Awards, West Midlands.
The highly acclaimed Project of the Year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to the local area. The judges felt Birmingham Gateway & Grand Central was this year’s worthy winner of the accolade as it has provided an ‘international gateway’ to Birmingham through its innovative design solutions, commercial viability and consideration to the environmental constraints.
Officially opened on 2 September 2015, the scheme represents the most significant investment in regenerating Birmingham in a generation. Grand Central, a premium retail and dining area sitting above the newly transformed New Street Station, provides resurgent Birmingham with another iconic landmark that has generated £2 billion of economic benefits and 10,000 jobs for the region.
As the biggest project for Birmingham in over a decade, it’s no surprise Birmingham Gateway & Grand Central also scooped the Commercial, Infrastructure and Regeneration awards respectively.
